Doula Chat

I offered to host a chat for newer or more experienced doulas about the way I run my business and everything in between. This is not a sales pitch, I won't add anyone to an email list. It's just wisdom and experience sharing. This is the second time I'm hosting an open discussion in this way and this is how it started:

An aspiring doula  asked the following question in a FB group...

Salary/ Sustainability

My question is for those who have made this their full time career who have been the primary earners for their family, how did you make this work? What do you do for health insurance, retirement savings, etc. this is very personal I understand so I appreciate anyone who is willing to discuss these things.

To which I replied:

I have been a doula for a decade and as a single mom of 2, I am the primary earner.

One of the most difficult things is being patient while establishing your business.  The first couple years can be tough and the percentage of doulas who leave the profession (or never even fully launch) is quite high in the initial 24 months.

I’d be willing to share about a lot of the things you’re asking (discussing financials I think can be so beneficial so an open book there) and sharing my own experience, but it feels like a lot to put in an FB reply 

AND THEN I OFFERED TO HOST A ZOOM CHAT

This is informal. There is no presentation. I plan to answer how I run business and what’s worked for me. Insurance, how I pay myself, how I have secured my future and my kids. I also pulled my financials for the last 10yrs and will talk about what I made each year and how and the investments in my business I thought were worth it. And will answer any questions you have.
