I offer doula services for clients with CT HUSKY/Medicaid on a limited basis, based on availability. Before booking a consultation with me, please be aware that HUSKY requires a referral from your OB/GYN or Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) in order for doula services to be covered. Husky does not cover doulas for home births. I strongly recommend requesting this referral before scheduling your consultation, as I cannot move forward with HUSKY-covered services without it.
Your OB/CNM may have never heard of this before, because it's a new process for everyone! If you need a letter of explanation, please don't hesitate to email me for help info@diaryofadoula.com.
Your provider can make the referral specifically for doula services using my full name, Melissa Duenas-Witter and fax it directly to 860-852-6632. Once the referral has been received, we can move forward with discussing availability and whether we are a good fit for your pregnancy, labor and birth. As of now HUSKY only covers birth doulas and not postpartum doulas.

My Story
What’s Included with HUSKY/Medicaid Doula Services
HUSKY/Medicaid doula coverage includes four visits and support for one labor and birth per pregnancy. I typically use these visits as two prenatal appointments and two postpartum appointments. During pregnancy, our first prenatal visit focuses on creating your birth preferences and helping you understand your options, while our second focuses on preparing physically and mentally for labor and birth. I will then join you during active labor and remain with you throughout your birth and for approximately two hours postpartum.
After your baby arrives, you may use your two one-hour postpartum visits to debrief and process your birth experience, receive newborn and postpartum support or work through breastfeeding concerns. I am also a Certified Lactation Counselor, so feeding support can be incorporated into these visits. If you have already completed a covered visit with another doula during this pregnancy, please let me know, as we will need to adjust your package accordingly.
In addition to our scheduled visits, you’ll have text access to me throughout our time together for questions, anxieties, preparation and support before and after appointments with your healthcare providers. My goal is to help you feel informed, supported and confident as you navigate pregnancy and prepare for birth.
Please note that HUSKY spaces are limited. As a solo practitioner and single mom of two, accepting HUSKY’s reduced reimbursement rate requires me to be intentional about the number of HUSKY clients I can serve. I continue to reserve these spaces because I genuinely believe that access to quality doula support should not be determined by someone’s ability to pay privately and I know there are families in our community who greatly need this support. Because HUSKY only reimburses me when services are actually provided, it is your responsibility to contact me when you believe you are in labor and keep me updated so that I have the opportunity to attend your birth. Clear communication is essential to making this benefit work for both of us.
